Famous Rapids to Enjoy During Rafting

While rafting in Rishikesh, you have to face five types of rapid, which are divided based on risk challenges. That is given below.

  • Grade 1 – Most popular rafting grade, easy navigation in gentle stream and best for newbies. There is almost no risk involved.
  • Grade 2 – Grade I is a medium or moderate difficulty level rapid. It requires a bit of guidance for the rafters. It exists in those parts where the river passes through small rocky or uneven regions. It starts from Shivpuri to Laxman Jhula and covers 16 km.
  • Grade 3 – Grade III rapid is Difficult, Narrow Passages, Irregular High Waves bring serious obstacles by including multiple high, irregular waves and rocks. Yes, river rafting in Rishikesh is safe. It doesn’t matter if someone is a non-swimmer. Anyone can enjoy rafting. Everyone has to follow the safety measures while rafting. A life jacket and helmet are a must to wear for your protection so that they can save you from drowning.

The perfect time for river rafting in Rishikesh is mid-September to early May. The river level rises during monsoons and is unsafe for rafting. Therefore, rafting is not allowed in the Ganges at this time. The time from November to March is suitable for transparent white water rafting.

Always wear light and quick-drying clothes while rafting. Clothes in which water does not stagnate. Wear lightweight floaters, and don’t wear shoes at all.

The lowest age for white water rafting in Rishikesh is 12 years. Children of 12 years can enjoy 9 km rafting. If you want to experience the long rafting stretch (over 9km), you must be at least 18 years of age.

Yes, there is a weight limit for rafting. Individuals are allowed to white water rafting from a minimum weight of 30 kg to a maximum of 100 kg.

Rafting Distance : 8 Kms

This is a suitable rafting option for all ages people. The route from Brahmapuri to Rishikesh is easy. For first-timers and those scared of water, this is entertaining enough without risk. Expected time to finish it is 1:00 to 1:30 hour.

Shivpuri to Rishikesh

Main Rapids : Return to Sender, Roller Coaster, Golf Course, Club House, Initiation, Body Surfing, Sweet Sixteen, Double Trouble.
Rafting Distance : 16 Kms

Shivpuri to Rishikesh stretch is a perfect combination of thrill and pleasure. This stretch is of intermediate difficulty level. Grade III rapids can beat rafters time and time again. For those faint-hearted and non-swimmers, this section is not a recommended option for rafting in Rishikesh. Expected time to finish it is 2:00 to 3:00 hours.

Marine Drive to Rishikesh

Main Rapids : Three Blind Mice, Black Money, Cross Fire, Return to Sender, Roller Coaster, Golf Course, Club House, Initiation, Body Surfing, Sweet Sixteen, Double Trouble.
Rafting Distance : 24 Kms

The rafting voyage from Marine Drive to Rishikesh NIM Beach is of average level, with few other rapids compared to Shivpuri. The sailing distance is about 24 km, and it takes you to the highest level of thrill. During your rafting adventure, you can enjoy cliff jumping on the Ganges River and hit recreational rapids like The Wall, Course, Clubhouse, Initiative, Hilton Terminator Huh, and Double Trouble. Expected time to finish it is 4 to 5 hours.
